The Desert is in Bloom and we’re jazzed about painting outdoors and in.
It is plein air month in Tubac! Can you picture a more beautiful scene that the Sonoran Desert in spring after the abundance of rain we’ve received this winter.
The month started with Bill Inman teaching
In the Spirit of a Russian Impressionist
Painting both in plein air and in studio, Bill guided students in the plein air bravura approach he learned from artist Arlo Coles, a student of Sergei Bongart.
I emphasized that before we place color on our canvases we need to make sure we have fixed in our minds the value, color, size and direction we want the stroke to be. Then, when we place the stroke on the canvas we do it without fear. – Bill Inman
I am so honored and thrilled after reading Bill’s synopsis of the weekend at Tubac School of Fine Art and our wonderfully idyllic village. You really should go read it yourself!
Never fear…He’ll be back again next season!

David is a wonderful teacher – his style of painting is informative for both the beginner and the experienced painter. He is also a very nurturing instructor – he cares about the art and the student, guiding you to see images and space and shapes. He improves my painting every time I take his class. He is such an asset to the school and the art community.
His Positive, personal approach was refreshing.
