Abstracting the Landscape
Take the plunge into abstraction by taking the fundamentals of landscape painting to new and exciting directions! This class will focus on the process of pulling imagery from nature to emphasize the formal aspects of painting – color, composition, movement and space. Open to all oil and acrylic painters who are willing to let go, experiment and take chances!
We’ll dive into the history of abstraction, utilizing plein air works in the studio, possibilities through our materials/tools, and color palette strategies.
Each day will include presentations, demonstrations, followed by a series of painting exercises. Students will be encouraged to show their work for group discussions.

About Scott Gellatly

Scott Gellatly holds a degree in painting and drawing from the University of Oregon and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. A landscape painter at heart, Scott’s work has become more abstracted, with greater emphasis on pure color and gestural mark-making to evoke nature.
I loved everything about Tubac School of Fine Arts! From the preparation emails to the wrap up this class has given me a focus on where I want to go with my art!!! Scott has such great knowledge of pigment and a style I can identify with along with a great teaching style! I have found my way forward. Thank you.
