Encaustic & Mixed Media

Raé Miller

Encaustic & Mixed Media

April 22, 2022-April 23, 2021
Full-Day 6 hours 9-4
$410/2 Day Workshop

Learn the basics of encaustic painting, and then we’re off to explore the possibilities of mixed media in this two-day workshop. Create your personalized marks using graphite, oil pastel, oil pigment sticks, metal leaf, collage and more.

Encaustic “dries” almost immediately, so this is a fast-paced workshop. We will build layers of translucent colors and add drawing, mark-making, impressions, and collage.

Learn how to use oil pigment sticks, oil pastels, metal leaf and various tools to create fabulous textures and depth in your encaustic paintings.

Encaustic is beeswax, pigment, and resin used in melted form. We paint the molten wax onto a rigid surface, fuse it with heat, and it is “dry” as quickly as it cools. The possibilities are endless. Bring your ideas as this workshop is about creating your personal style in encaustic.

Learn more about Raé Miller on her website .

Raé Miller is an American abstract artist who recently returned to Tucson, AZ, after eleven years as an expat in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her paintings and monotypes have been shown internationally in galleries and public installations. In 2016, her solo exhibit “El Peso de la Luz/The Weight of Light” was featured at the renowned Bellas Artes in San Miguel de Allende.

Her fascination with light and translucency has been a recurring theme in her paintings. While she does not limit herself to the use of a particular medium, Raé finds working with encaustic and cold wax most satisfying for their qualities of translucence and texture.

With over twenty years experience painting with encaustic, and having taught for ten years in her San Miguel de Allende studio, Raé is also an occasional workshop instructor and presenter at the International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, MA., and Tubac School of Fine Art in Tubac, AZ.

“This is the first time I’ve felt confident in using the torch for encaustic! I am so happy I found your class.”

- Sandy

“You explained everything so well. I was overwhelmed by videos on the internet. Your workshop brought everything into focus and I can’t wait to get home and continue painting!” –

Jess

“Thanks for a great workshop! I can’t believe how beautiful my paintings turned out! I will be coming back for the next level class.”
