Gelatin Plate Printing & Stitching on Fabric
Gelatin Plate Printing:
Discover the delights of creating your own unique fabrics with gelatin plate mono-printing. Gelatin plate printing is a fun and easy method of mono-printing that results in surprises and delights.
We begin with going over how to make a gelatin plate. After making stencils, we will then use them to pull prints. We continue with found materials and paper masks to personalize your monoprints and ghost prints. We will explore mark-making tools to add texture and interest.
Each student will leave class with their own gelatin plate, a brayer, fabric paints, stencils, and a yard’s worth of 8×10” fabric monoprints.
Stitching / Embroidery on Printed Fabric:
In this workshop, we will stitch onto the fabric that was printed in the Gelatin Plate Printing workshop. Students who did not take that workshop are encouraged to bring their own printed or plain fabric to stitch onto. A variety of embroidery stitches will add textural interest and another dimension to your work. Leave this workshop with a small stitched piece that you can hang on the wall.
